The Uvalde Coyotes are a pre-season pick to finish seventh in the 2018 district football race.
According to a pre-season prediction made by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine, the Coyotes will finish seventh out of the eight high schools that make up new District 14-5A Division II.
Despite the seventh-place prediction by Texas football, Uvalde High School head football coach R.T. Gonzales is optimistic about the coming football season.
“Last Nov. 27, we made the decision as a football program that we were going to do things we had never done in the off-season and summer to get where we want to be,” said Gonzales.
“With all the talk of realignment and not knowing where we would fall, we focused on trying to be the best version of ourselves in order to play whoever it would be,” said Gonzales. “And that’s what we have, a team that is going to compete and fight every single second of the day, regardless of who we play and where they have us ranked.
“The beauty of this is we still get to play these games and we still have a locker room full of men that carry a lot of pride and are ready to fight every single day,” said Gonzales.
