Coyotes begin district play Tuesday

Uvaldeans host MV in 28-5A hoops opener

Tuesday night in Uvalde High School’s Harvey Kinchlow Gym, the Uvalde Coyotes will begin play in their new basketball district.

They will host the Medina Valley Panthers in District 28-5A competition.

The varsity game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff, while the two sub-varsity games are set to get underway at 5 p.m.

Medina Valley’s Panthers were scheduled to complete the pre-district portion of their schedule in tournament play at New Braunfels this weekend.

Prior to the New Braunfels tourney, the Panthers topped the Fredericksburg Battlin’ Billies, 72-69, in action at Castroville last Tuesday night.

Guards Sam Champlin, a 6-foot-2 senior, Brayden Haney, a 5-foot-8 junior, and Carlos Guerrero, a 6-foot senior, are three of MV’s leading scorers this season. They each have scored in double figures in most of the games for the Panthers this season.

Coach Alex Oyola’s Coyotes were to wind up pre-district competition will action in the Los Fresnos tournament this weekend.
