Coyotes battle Lytle in basketball

Tuesday night, the Uvalde Coyotes will be on the road to play the Lytle Pirates in basketball competition at Lytle.

Preceding that contest, Uvalde and Lytle will vie in freshman basketball at 5 p.m. and in junior varsity basketball at 6:15 p.m.

Following action Tuesday, the Uvalde High School freshman team and junior varsity team will be in tournament play.

The UHS freshmen will play at Devine on Thursday and Saturday, while the UHS junior varsity will play at Fredericksburg Thursday and Saturday.

UHS’s varsity will be back in action one week from Tuesday when they play at Fredericksburg.

Tip-off time for the varsity game is scheduled for 3:45 p.m.

Preceding that game will be a 1 p.m. freshman game and a 2:30 p.m. junior varsity game.

The varsity Coyotes will participate in the Kerrville Tivy tournament set for Nov. 29-30.

Yesterday, the Coyotes were scheduled to host the Bandera Bulldogs in their season opener in Kinchlow Gym.

Results from the game were not available at press time. Those results will be reported in Thursday’s edition of the Uvalde Leader-News.

Originally, the games were scheduled for Friday, but the games were postponed to Saturday to accommodate a schedule conflict for Bandera fans. Bandera was to play Hondo in a high school football bi-district game Friday.

Coach Alex Oyola’s Coyotes went into their season opener yesterday following scrimmage competition against Del Rio Tuesday night in Kinchlow Gym.

UHS varsity, junior varsity and freshman basketball players saw much playing time in the scrimmage.

Assisting Coach Oyola with the Uvalde High School boys’ basketball program are coaches Danny Castro and George Menchaca.

Members of the UHS varsity team this season include seniors Cristian Treviño, D’Andre Carroll, Angel Flores, Jackson Taylor and Ryan De La Cruz; and juniors Peyton Carnes, Tito Gonzalez, Eric Flores, Grant Taylor, Derrick Amaya, Christian Rivera, Estevan Ortiz, Chris Hernandez, Jose Luevanos and Donovan Davila.
