Big golf tourney begins Saturday

The 71st-annual Uvalde Fourth of July golf tournament is scheduled for this weekend at Uvalde Memorial Golf Course.

Match-play action will begin Saturday morning and will continue through the final round set for Monday morning.

Tournament play Saturday and Monday will begin at 9 a.m.

Tomorrow, a practice round will be conducted.

Other events at this year’s Fourth of July golf classic include a player shootout and a player’s auction at Lunker’s Grill scheduled tomorrow.

“It should be a great weekend for golf in Uvalde,” said course director Clint Baack. “Despite the hot, dry weather conditions, the course is in excellent shape. Usually we have some rain prior to the tournament, but we have received no rain this year. But our staff has put the water to the course and it should be ready for this weekend.”
