Bidding farewell: Miltons retiring after 40 years

As Lucille and Frank Milton assisted a long-time Milton’s Jewelry and Gifts customer prior to the couple’s final Black Friday as storeowners, they asked her to return to bid the downtown Uvalde store a final farewell next month. Tearfully, the woman replied she couldn’t stand to say goodbye.

The couple, who will be retiring after more than 40 years in downtown Uvalde, said similar exchanges have been a common occurrence since they announced plans to sell their downtown storefront.

“We had a long-time customer from Sabinal come in crying and wearing every piece of jewelry she ever purchased from us,” Lucille said.

“Our business is such a personal business,” Frank added.
