Gutierrez plans May 24 talk at Val Verde library

Author Dave Gutierrez, who is scheduled to release a new edition of his book “Patriots from the Barrio,” will be at the Val Verde County Library on May 24 to discuss his Del Rio roots, getting Hollywood’s attention, and the genealogy and military research that went into his book.

Hollywood actor and producer Wilmer Valderrama has obtained film rights to Gutierrez’s book, a true story of a Mexican American combat unit that included Guillermo “Willie” De Leon of Uvalde and Gutierrez’s cousin Ramon G. Gutierrez of Del Rio.

“Patriots from the Barrio” was released in September of 2014.

The discussion will take place from noon until 1 p.m. The library is located at 300 S. Spring St., Del Rio. For more information, call 830-774-7595
