The Uvalde Youth Rodeo Club will begin its 2019 summer season with a practice night on June 4 at the Uvalde County Arena at the Fairplex.
For the first time in the long history of UYRC competition, club practice nights and points nights will be held on Tuesdays instead of Mondays this season.
“So many youngsters compete in weekend rodeo events, we decided to change our competition night from Mondays to Tuesdays,” said UYRC secretary Thelma Thompson. “This allows for a day of rest for the kids and for their horses. And it allows for an extra travel day.
“We are all creatures of habit. Hopefully, everyone will get used to having our competition night on Tuesdays,” said Thompson.
Other practice nights for the 2019 season include June 11 and July 9.
The first UYRC points night of the season will be on June 18. Other points nights are set for June 25, July 16, and July 23.
To be eligible for end-of-year prizes awarded by the UYRC, competitors must participate in at least three of the four points nights.
Activities on practice and points night will begin at 6 p.m. The one-day rodeo will take place Saturday, July 20.
The UYRC’s awards night will be either the first or second week in August. The date has yet to be finalized.
