Uvaldeans vie in district baseball

Going into Little League District 21 baseball tournament action last night, three Uvalde All-Star teams remained in contention for district championship honors.

The Uvalde Under-11 All-Stars, Uvalde Major Division All-Stars, and Uvalde Junior All-Stars were to play in key district tourney matchups.

At Uvalde’s Kiwanis Field, the Uvalde Under-11 All-Stars were to face the undefeated San Antonio Five Diamonds All-Stars.

The game was to be a rematch between teams that played in the opening round of the tourney.

Five Diamonds topped the Uvaldeans, 15-1, in that first meeting.

The San Antonians needed only a win last night to take the district title.

Uvalde’s All-Stars needed a win to force a game tonight for the district title as a double-elimination format was in effect for the district tournament.

If needed, the additional district playoff game was set for 8 p.m. tonight at Kiwanis Field.
