Members of the Uvalde High School cross-country team hit the road with the opening of pre-season practices this week.
They will face their first meet competition on Aug. 17 at Del Rio.
The UHS Invitational running meet is scheduled for Aug. 24.
“We are excited to begin the 2019 season,” said Coach Libby Guzman. “Hopefully our runners have had a good summer of working out in preparation for the start of the season.”
Tops among the returning athletes from last season’s varsity program are seniors Kayden Carrasco and James Nevarez, juniors Tito Gonzalez, Brisa Rodriguez, Esmy Garcia, Alex Nolasco, Ariana Reyes, Briana Crow, and Robert Guerrero, and sophomores Tony and Paul Hernandez.
“Our returning runners should set the tone for our program this season,” said Guzman. “We expect to have a competitive season.”
Coach Guzman said that there is still time for prospective runners to join the UHS cross-country program by contacting her at 830-261-0001.
“Any student-athlete who would like to join can contact me for more information,” said Guzman. “Sports physicals are required before any new runners participate in team practice.”
