Uvalde girls place fifth in powerlift

The Uvalde Lobos had only five athletes competing in the Uvalde High School powerlifting meet last Saturday, but they finished in fifth place with 15 team points.

Avery Contreras had the highest individual finish for the Lobos. She placed second in the girls’ 165-pound weight class with a total lift of 815 pounds.

She lifted 345 pounds in the squat, 150 pounds in the bench press, and 320 pounds in the dead lift.

With her total lift, Contreras qualified for regional competition.

Three Lobos finished in third place, including Ariana Perez in the 123-pound class, Regina Prado in the 148-pound class, and Jocelyn Bustamante in the 181-pound class.

Perez lifted a total of 540 pounds. She squatted 230 pounds, benched 95 pounds, and dead lifted 215 pounds.

Prado hoisted a total of 745 pounds. She had a squat of 375 pounds, a bench press of 105 pounds, and a dead lift of 265 pounds.

Bustamante totaled 775 pounds, including 345 pounds in the squat, 145 pounds in the bench, and 285 pounds in the dead lift.

Valeria Rodriguez placed fifth in the 198-pound class. She totaled 690 pounds, including 275 pounds in the squat, 115 pounds in the bench, and 300 pounds in the dead lift.
