Tuesday night at the Uvalde High School soccer field, the Uvalde Lobos will celebrate Parents’ Night as they take on the Floresville Jaguars in district soccer competition.
Kick-off time for the varsity match is set for 7 p.m.
The varsity match will be preceded by a junior varsity match at 5 p.m.
Prior to the start of the varsity match, the Lobos and their parents will be recognized during a special ceremony.
Coach Russell McElroy’s Lobos, 1-0 in district and 4-6-1 for the season overall, were scheduled to play the San Antonio Harlandale Indians Friday night at San Antonio.
Results from that match will be reported in Thursday’s edition of the Uvalde Leader-News.
Last Tuesday, the Lobos beat the Southside Lady Cardinals in a 3-1 thriller.
Down 1-0, the Lobos rallied to scored three unanswered goals.
The Lobos scored twice during the final 12 minutes of the first half.
Sarah Mize tallied on a short-range shot for goal at the 11:04 mark of the first half to knot the score at 1-1.
With 2:09 left in the first half, Caryssa Mendoza put the Lobos into the scoring lead as she connected a short-range shot.
Ahead 2-1 at the end of the first half, the Lobos added a goal just three minutes into the second half as Katelin Sena nailed a free kick from about 20 yards out.
Defensive leaders for the Lobos included goal keeper Klara Ruiz and defensive specialist Abigail Perez.
Coyotes on the road
While the Lobos will be at home Tuesday, the Uvalde Coyotes will make the long road trip to Floresville to take on the Floresville Tigers.
Kick-off time for the varsity contest is set for 7 p.m., while the junior varsity match will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Coach Keith Pendleton’s Coyotes, 0-1 in district and 3-9-3 for the season, will enter action against Floresville following a Friday matchup against the San Antonio Harlandale Indians at the UHS soccer field.
Results from the Uvalde-Harlandale match will be reported in Thursday’s edition of the Uvalde Leader-News.
Last Tuesday, the Coyotes lost an 8-0 decision against the Southside Cardinals.
Following action against Floresville, the Coyotes will be back on the road Friday to face the San Antonio McCollum Cowboys.
Next home soccer competition for the Coyotes is scheduled for Feb. 27 against Eagle Pass Winn.
On March 2, the Coyotes will begin the second half of their district schedule when they host the Southside Cardinals in a district rematch.
