UHS girls face Eagle Pass in soccer competition Wednesday

Wednesday at Eagle Pass, the Uvalde Lobos will battle the Eagle Pass Lady Eagles in soccer.

Kick-off time for the varsity match is scheduled for 7 p.m., while the junior varsity match will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Coach Russell McElroy’s Lobos, 0-1 for the season, will enter action at Eagle Pass following a weekend of tournament play in the San Antonio SAISD Showcase Classic tournament.

They were set to play matches against San Antonio Highlands, La Vernia, and San Antonio McCollum.

Results from those matches will be reported in Thursday’s edition of the Uvalde Leader-News.

The Uvalde High School girls went into the Southside tournament following a 7-0 road loss to the Smithson Valley Rangers last Tuesday night.

“We played a very tough opponent in our season opener against Smithson Valley. They have one of the top Class 6A high school soccer programs in the region,” said Coach McElroy. “We played better at times than the score might indicate. Hopefully, playing a tough opponent like Smithson Valley early on will help us to get better.”

Following action at Eagle Pass Wednesday, the Lobos will travel to San Antonio for Saturday afternoon action against the Churchill Chargers.

At 2 p.m., the varsity teams will do battle in Heroes Stadium.

Preceding that match will be a junior varsity contest set to start at noon.

The Lobos will play the Kerrville Tivy Lady Antlers at Kerrville on Jan. 23.

Uvalde’s season home opener will be on Jan. 26 when the Lobos host the Medina Valley Lady Panthers.

The varsity match will begin at 7 p.m. and that match will be preceded by a 5 p.m. junior varsity match.

On Feb. 13, the Lobos will kick off their district soccer campaign when they host the Southside Lady Cardinals.

Varsity soccer action between the Lobos and the Lady Cards will get underway at 7 p.m.

Before the varsity teams do battle, the junior varsity teams will face off with a soccer match to begin at 5 p.m.
