UHS dozen compete in regional track


Twelve Uvalde High School athletes were in San Antonio Friday and Saturday for competition in the Class 5A Region IV track-and-field meet.

Results from the action at San Antonio’s Heroes Stadium were not available at presstime.

Complete results will be reported in Thursday’s edition of the Uvalde Leader-News.

Competing for the Coyotes in the regional meet were Chris Embers and Eric De La Rosa.

Embers was to represent UHS in both the triple jump and the long jump, while De La Rosa was to represent UHS in the discus throw and the shot put.

At the recent Area meet at Floresville, Embers captured first place in both the triple jump and the long jump, while De La Rosa took runner-up honors in both the discus and the shot put.

Competing for the Lobos in the regional meet were Alexa Luna, Alisandra Rodriguez, Esmy Garcia, Briana Crow, Abby Kone, A’Taisha Carroll, Zaneta Salazar, Andrea Perez, Kayden Carrasco and Tabytha White.

At the Area meet, Luna claimed first place in the 100-meter dash, Rodriguez and Garcia placed first and second in the 400-meter dash, and Kayden Carrasco took third place in the 800-meter dash.

The four-by-400-meter relay team of Rodriguez, Carrasco, Perez and Garcia won runner-up honors.

White was an alternates for the four-by-400 at the regional meet.

Crow, Luna, Rodriguez and Garcia placed third in the four-by-100-meter relay.

The top finishers from the regional meet compettion at San Antonio this weekend will qualify for the state track-and-field meet scheduled for May 10-11 at Austin’s Mike. A. Myers Stadium.
