UHS athletes prepare for Area track-and-field competition

Track-and-field athletes from District 29-5A and District 30-5A will be competing for top honors and a berth in the upcoming Class 5A Region IV meet when they vie in the Area track-and-field meet set for Thursday at Floresville.

For Uvalde High School area meet qualifiers, it will be a return to the site where they recently enjoyed much success in the recent District 29-5A meet, Floresville’s Eisenburg Stadium.

Coach Albert Tijerina’s Coyotes won the District 29-5A boys’ team title with 167 points, including first place in two relay events.

Ryan Talavera, Noah Smith, Isidro Escamilla and D’Andre Carroll placed first in the 4-by-100-meter relay with a time of 45.16 seconds.

Talavera, Escamilla, Orlando Castañeda and Smith took first place in the 4-by-200-meter relay with a time of 1:34.77.

Noah Smith won first place in the 200-meter dash. He recorded a time of 23.28 seconds.
