Six UHS athletes to commit to college sports today

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District will host a virtual signing ceremony tonight for six athletes who will be signing letters of intent to play college ball.

The signing ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. and may be viewed online at the UCISD Athletic Dept. homepage.

Uvalde High School class of 2020 seniors Andrew Maldonado, David Torres, Matthew Sandoval, D’Andre Carroll, Lenisa Tomasini and Megan Flores will be signing letters.

Maldonado and Torres both will sign a baseball letter with Iowa Wesleyan University, while Sandoval will sign a baseball letter with San Jacinto College.

Carroll will sign a football letter with Sul Ross State University.

Tomasini will sign a softball letter with Northland College, and Megan Flores will sign a softball letter with Laredo Community College.

“With the suspension of high school classes and sporting activities, this spring been a tough time for these students and everyone at UHS,” said UHS athletic director R.T. Gonzales. “We look forward to helping them to make the best of things with his virtual signing ceremony.

“Signing to play ball past high school is an exciting time for these kids,” said Gonzales. “We are proud of them and we wish them all the best in the future.”
