Russell McElroy is the new head volleyball coach at Uvalde High School.
“I am excited about coaching in Uvalde,” said McElroy. “I have coached at high schools around the area for over 10 years, but I have wanted to coach here for a long time.”
McElroy comes to UHS from Pearsall where he served for two seasons as head volleyball coach.
“Leaving Pearsall, especially this late in the year, was tough,” said McElroy. “I felt a tremendous sense of loyalty to the kids there. It was no easy decision for me to make as this would have been my third season with the seniors-to-be at Pearsall.
“I talked with family and friends, and prayed for guidance,” said McElroy. “In the end, I had to do what was best for my family and that was to accept a position in Uvalde. It just made a lot of sense.”
McElroy, a graduate of Perryton High School and West Texas A&M University, has an extensive background in volleyball.
