Amid wet, rainy, muddy playing conditions, the Uvalde Lobos blanked the San Antonio McCollum Cowboys, 3-0, in District 29-5A soccer competition last Friday night.
Just past the midway point of the first half, Rayleigh Watson put the Lobos on top as she scored the first Uvalde goal of the contest.
“Scoring that first goal was huge, because it gave us the early lead and kept the pressure on McCollum” said Uvalde High School head soccer coach Russell McElroy. “We were playing good defense, so scoring that early goal was huge.”
The Lobos had some other scoring opportunities in the first half, but they were unable to put the ball into the goal.
Goal keeper Klara Ruiz kept McCollum off the scoreboard as she made a block on a penalty kick in the first half.
