Tomorrow night, the Uvalde Lobos will have the evening off from District 28-5A basketball competition.
Because Uvalde High School competes in a district that includes nine schools, one team will have an open date on each night of district play.
The Lobos will have their open date in the first half of district play tomorrow.
Tuesday at Castoville, the Lobos will resume their district slate when they face the Medina Valley Lady Panthers.
Coach Gisel Mireles’ Lobos will enter that game coming off a 48-29 loss to the Southside Lady Cardinals in their district opener Tuesday night.
Details and individual scoring statistics from that game were not available.
One week from tomorrow, the Lobos will make their district home debut when they host the Southwest Legacy Lady Titans in UHS’s Harvey Kinchlow Gym.
Tip-off time for the varsity game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., while both sub-varsity games will get underway at 5 p.m.
The Lobos entered their district opener Tuesday coming off of a 1-4 performance in tournament play at Hondo last weekend.
Last Thursday, the Lobos began the tournament with a 43-37 victory over the Cotulla Cowgirls.
Ahead 23-22 at the end of the third period, the Lobos outscored the Cotulla girls, 20-15, in the final period to win the game.
A’Taisha Carroll lead the scoring for the Lobos with 12 points.
Others scoring were Sarrah Luna with nine points, Rayleigh Watson with eight points, Nataly Santos with seven points, Shyann Dockal with six points and Gisselle Martinez with one point.
For the Lobos, the win was their first victory of their 2018-19 campaign.
In their second tourney game, the Lobos were beaten, 49-20, by the tourney-host Hondo Owls.
Last Friday, the Lobos lost two games as they were defeated by the Eagle Pass Mavericks, 62-23, and the Medina Valley Panthers, 56-22.
In the tournament game for seventh place, the Lobos suffered a 56-41 loss to the Bandera Lady Bulldogs.
Individual scoring information from the Hondo, Winn, Christian, and Bandera tourney games was not available.
On Dec. 18, the Lobos will play the Southwest Dragons at Southwest.
The Lobos will wind up the pre-Christmas holiday break with a home district matchup against the San Antonio Harlan Hawks on Dec. 21.
Varsity games will begin at 6:30 p.m., while the sub-varsity games will start at 5 p.m.
