Lobos locked in a battle for post-season playoff honors

The battle for the final two post-season playoff berths in District 28-5A softball is going right down to the wire.

While Medina Valley and Southwest have locked up the top two playoff spots, six teams remain in contention for the other two playoff spots.

Two of those teams will do battle at Eagle Pass tomorrow night as the Uvalde Lobos face the Winn Lady Mavericks in a district rematch.

Last month at the Uvalde High School softball field, the Winn girls handed the Lobos their worst loss of the year as they trounced the Uvaldeans 13-0.

Winn racked up 10 hits and took advantage of five Uvalde defensive errors to post a lopsided 10-run rule victory.

The Lady Mavericks scored eight times in the third inning to break the game open.

Winn, 6-5 in district and 17-7 for the season, ended a two-game losing streak with a 15-7 road victory over the Southside Lady Cardinals Tuesday.

Prior to that game, the Lady Mavericks lost back-to-back district games to Somerset, 4-3, and Floresville, 8-3.
