Uvalde High School track-and-field teams will vie in the Canyon Lake Relays Saturday.
The field events will start at 9 a.m., while the running events will start at 1:30 p.m.
UHS will vie in Division I of the meet along with Austin Akins, Hays, Kerrville Tivy, Lockhart, Del Rio, Brandeis, and San Marcos.
Coach Libby Guzman’s Lobos opened their track season with a fifth-place finish in the Del Rio Relays last Friday.
The Lobos totaled 61 points in a meet that featured mostly Class 6A high schools.
Uvalde’s four-by-100-meter relay team of Brianna Crow, Alexa Luna, Abby Kone, and Esmy Garcia placed first with a time of 51.20 seconds.
Kayden Carrasco won the 800-meter dash with her time of 2:34.62.
In the 100-meter dash, Alexa Luna placed second, Brianna Crow finished fifth, and A’Taisha Carroll wound up sixth. Their times were 13.03 seconds, 13.50 seconds, and 13.60 seconds.
Kayden Carrasco and Esmy Garcia finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400-meter dash with times of 1:05.41 and 1:05.93.
Brianna Crow, Delilah De La Garza, Abby Kone, and Alex Luna turned in a combined time of 1:52.70 for third place in the four-by-200-meter relay.
Makayla Barboza placed fifth in the shot put with her put of 32 feet even.
Del Rio edged out Laredo United for first place in the team standings. The Queens totaled 139 points, while the United girls had 133 points.
Laredo Alexander won third place with 112 points and Eagle Pass finished fourth with 74 points.
For Coach CJ Rivera’s Coyotes, the Canyon Lake Relays will be their first meet of the season.
One week from Saturday, Uvalde’s Honey Bowl will be the site for the 55th-annual Uvalde Relays.
