Coyotes win first two games in Boerne tournament

Coach Billy Ramey’s young Coyote hoopsters are improving as they gain experience. Thursday, Uvalde won twice at the Boerne tournament. They are also learning to win the close games.

Thursday in the Boerne tournament, the Coyotes edged Holy Cross 61-58 and came back in the afternoon tilt to squeak past San Angelo Lakeview 59-55.

Three Coyotes were in double digits in the Holy Cross game, led by freshman Estevan Ortiz with 19. Mingo Davila, the only senior in the starting lineup, pitched in 17 and sophomore D’Andre Carroll tacked on 10 more.

Other scoring came from freshman Donovan Davila, with nine; sophomore Jose Ruiz, five; and junior Donovan Amaya, one.
