Coyotes prepare for district opener

UHS vs. Cardinals at Southside Friday

The Uvalde Coyotes will begin preparations for their District 29-5A football opener tomorrow.

On Friday, the Coyotes will travel to southern Bexar County to take on the Southside Cardinals.

That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff in Southside ISD Stadium.

Coach Ricky Lock’s Cardinals are off to a 3-2 start this football season.

The Cardinals have scored an average of 25.4 points per game, while they have given up an average of 23.4 points per contest.

Southside finished pre-district play with a 28-6 loss to the La Vernia Bears on Sept. 29 at Southside.

Running back Edward Perez, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound senior, carried the ball 19 times for 125 yards and one touchdown to lead the Cardinals against La Vernia.

Perez, who possesses 4.5 speed in the 40, leads the San Antonio area in rushing statistics this season. He has rushed 126 times for 1,136 yards and scored 12 touchdowns.
