The Uvalde Coyotes are a pre-season pick to finish second in this year’s District 29-5A football race.
According to The Old Coach Friday Night Football Texas magazine that recently hit area newsstands, the Coyotes are predicted to finish as the runner-up team in 29-5A football.
With a large number of returning lettermen from last season’s 7-4 football team and a favorable schedule that puts the Uvaldeans playing six games in the Honey Bowl, new head coach R.T. Gonzales Coyotes are picked to finish second to the Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks in this year’s district football race.
Listed by FNF magazine as some of the top Uvalde High School football players going into the 2017 season are seniors Michael Mata, David Rodriguez, Joshua Sandoval, Benito Luna, Ralph Hernandez, Joshua Valenzuela, and Jailin Victorino.
Former UHS head coach Gary Griffin’s Coyotes lost only four games last season, but those losses came against four post-season playoff teams in Gonzales, Floresville, Eagle Pass Winn and Corpus Christi Calallen.
With lots of personnel returning from the first post-season playoff season in the history of C.C. Winn High School, the Mavericks look to challenge for top district honors this season.
