Coyotes face MV in district opener


Next Tuesday at Castroville, the Uvalde Coyotes will open play in District 28-5A competition as they face the Medina Valley Panthers.

Tip-off time for the varsity game is set for 6:30 p.m., while both the junior varsity game and freshman game will begin at 5 p.m.

Coach Alex Oyola’s Coyotes, 2-6 for the season, will enter their district opener next Tuesday coming off of weekend tournament action at Hondo.

Tuesday night, the Coyotes lost in road action against the Laredo LBJ Wolves, but the score from the game and scoring statistics from the contest were not available at presstime.

Last weekend, the Coyotes participated in the tough Tivy Thanksgiving Tournament.

The Coyotes lost their four tourney games.

In action last Friday, the Coyotes lost a 70-45 decision to the tourney host Tivy Antlers.

They then dropped a 79-37 verdict against the Austin Anderson Trojans.

Last Saturday, the Coyotes suffered a 64-47 loss at the hands of the San Antonio Cornerstone Warriors.

They completed tourney play with a 68-38 loss to the Alamo Heights Mules.

Individual scoring details from those games were not available at presstime.

Following action at Castroville Tuesday, the Coyotes will be out of action until they host the Southwest Legacy Titans in their district home opener set for Dec. 17 in Uvalde High School’s Harvey Kinchlow Gym.

The varsity basketball game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff, while the sub-varsity games will begin at 5 p.m.

On Dec. 20, the Coyotes will face the Southwest Dragons in district action at Southwest.

The Coyotes will compete in the Kingsville tournament on Dec. 27-28, and close out the 2019 portion of their schedule with district home action against the San Antonio Harlan Hawks on Dec. 30.

Varsity action against Harlan will begin at 1:30 p.m., while the sub-varsity games are set for 12-noon tipoffs.
