Coyotes face defending champions

The Uvalde Coyotes will take on the defending district champion Floresville Tigers in football action tomorrow night at Floresville’s Eschenburg Field.

Kick-off time for the District 29-5A contest is set for 7:30 p.m.

Coach Andrew Rohrs’ Tigers, 2-0 in district and 4-3 for the season, enter play tomorrow coming off of back-to-back district wins over San Antonio Harlandale, 28-0, and San Antonio McCollum, 31-17.

Their other wins this season have come against San Antonio Edison, 42-7, and Antonian, 17-13, while their losses have come versus San Antonio Highlands, 49-42, Cuero, 52-14, and Beeville Jones, 33-27.

“Floresville has a very good football team. Their only losses have come against undefeated and state-ranked Cuero and a couple of 5-2 ball clubs in Highlands and Beeville,” said Uvalde High School head football coach R.T. Gonzales. “The Tigers are a very talented, well-coached football team.”

Last Friday at San Antonio’s Harlandale Memorial Stadium, the Tigers rolled up 371 yards and scored three touchdown en route to their lopsided victory over McCollum.
