The Uvalde Coyotes played their best football game of the 2017 season Friday night as they defeated the Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks, 27-6, in the District 29-5A finale.
Playing before a large Parents’ Night crowd in the Honey Bowl, the Coyotes rallied from an early scoring deficit to mount a 13-6 half-time lead.
They scored twice in the third period and shut out the Mavericks throughout the remainder of the contest to win the ball game.
“This is a huge win for us. It gives us confidence and momentum as we head into the playoffs,” said Uvalde High School head football coach R.T. Gonzales. “Winn is a great football team and to play as well as we did against them says a lot.
“We played well on offense, defense, and special teams tonight,” said Gonzales. “We played good fundamental football and that’s the type of play we pride ourselves on.”
Playing field position football early on, Winn scored first in the contest.
