Tomorrow at Kerrville, the Uvalde Coyotes will begin basketball competition in the Tivy Thanksgiving Tournament
The Coyotes will open play in the two-day basketball event with a 12-noon contest against the tourney host Kerrville Tivy Antlers.
At 3 p.m. tomorrow, the Coyotes will take on the Austin Anderson Trojans.
On Saturday, the Coyotes will wrap up play in the two-day classic. At 10:30 a.m., the Coyotes will go up against tourney host the San Antonio Cornerstone Warriors.
The Coyotes will complete their tournament slate with a 1:30 p.m. contest against the Alamo Heights Mules.
Other high schools vying in the tournament include Lockhart, Austin Lake Travis, and Smithson Valley.
Following tourney action at Kerrville this weekend, the Coyotes will be on the road Tuesday to play Laredo LBJ.
The varsity Coyotes will vie in the Hondo tournament set for Dec. 5-7.
On Dec, 6-7, the junior varsity Coyotes will play in tourney action at Del Rio, while the freshmen Coyotes will play in tourney action at Somerset on Dec. 5 and 7.
Coach Alex Oyola’s Coyotes will enter Tivy tourney action following a Tuesday matchup against perennial Class 4A hoops powerhouse Fredericksburg.
Results from the contest between the Coyotes and the Battlin’ Billies at Fredericksburg were not available at presstime.
Results from that game will be reported in Sunday’s edition of the Uvalde Leader-News.
The Coyotes went into the Fredericksburg game following an exciting 78-73 road victory over the Lytle Pirates last week.
Down 25-14 at the end of the first period, the Uvaldeans battled back to outscore the Pirates, 64-48, the rest of the way.
The Coyotes outpointed the Pirates, 24-14, during the final period.
Five players scored in double figures to lead the scoring for the Coyotes, including Donovan Davila with 15 points, Cristian Treviño and Estevan Ortiz, each with 13 points, Grant Taylor with 12 points, and Eric Flores with 10 points.
