Coyotes battle MV in district opener

The Uvalde Coyotes will begin District 28-5A basketball action Tuesday when they go up against the Medina Valley Panthers at Castroville.

The varsity game is set for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff, while both sub-varsity games between the Coyotes and the Panthers will start at 5 p.m.

Coach Alex Oyola’s Coyotes, 2-8 for the season, will enter their district opener against Medina Valley coming off of weekend tournament action at Hondo.

On the opening day of the tourney, the Coyotes lost a 64-52 decision to the tourney host Hondo Owls.

They then lost a 72-41 verdict against the Pleasanton Eagles.

Complete tourney results will be reported in Thursday’s edition of the Uvalde Leader-News.

The Coyotes have an open date in their hoops schedule Friday.

One week from Tuesday, the Coyotes will make their district home debut when they host the Southwest Legacy Titans in Uvalde High School’s Harvey Kinchlow Gym.
