There will be many new faces on the Uvalde High School coaching staff for the 2017-18 school year.
With some resignations, some new hirings, and a new head football coach and athletic director, the UHS staff will look a lot different from the one that began last school year.
For the first time in the history of UHS, there will be a new head football coach and a new head volleyball coach to start the new school year as R.T. Gonzales will be the new head football coach and Russell McElroy will be the new head volleyball coach.
Earlier this month, Gonzales was recommended by Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District superintendent Jeanette Ball to replace Gary Griffin, who resigned as UHS head football coach and athletic director to accept a similar position at Brackettville.
Since accepting the position, Coach Gonzales has made some changes with his football staff.
Frank Gonzales is the new defensive coordinator for football and he becomes the new head powerlifting coach at UHS.
Gonzales replaces Roger Treviño, who recently resigned as football defensive coordinator and boys’ head track coach.
He replaces Manny Ayala, who has been reassigned to an administrative position in the school district.
