Can Uvalde clinch a playoff spot in football?

Although picked seventh in an eight-team district, the Uvalde Coyotes may surprise this year and even make a bid for that elusive fourth playoff spot.

The big three of Kerrville Tivy, Boerne Champion and Alamo Heights probably will claim the top three spots, but the Coyotes should compete with the balance of the district.

Tivy had an undefeated junior varsity team last season. The school lost heavily with 31 departing seniors, but if the defense comes through they could win it all. The Antlers have only two returning starters on defense which makes it suspect.

Offensively Kerrville will pin its hopes on QB Karson Valverde.

Alamo Heights has an all-state LB in Maki Caradin (6-2, 225) who has been a varsity starter since his freshmen year.

Boerne Champion QB/FS Luke Boyers (6-1, 175) might propel the Chargers to the top if the supporting cast responds. He may be a better defender than offensive threat and will have to stay healthy.
