Brackett tops Leakey to gain spot in championship game

The Brackettville Tigers topped the Leakey Eagles, 68-38, in semi-final action Thursday night to gain a spot in the championship game of the Southwest Texas Junior College Invitational basketball tournament.

They were to play the winner of Friday’s semi-final game in last night’s title game in SWTJC’s La Forge Hall Gym.

Results from that game and from the other third-round tournament games played yesterday will be reported in Thursday’s edition of the Uvalde Leader-News.

Brackett blew the game open early as they scored on a variety of shot by several different players and put together a 13-0 scoring run in the first period.

They outscored the Eagles, 18-12, in the second period to extend their scoring lead to 36-21 by the end of the first half.

The Tigers put the game away in the third period as they outpointed the Eagles, 18-7, and took an insurmountable 54-28 lead going into the final eight minutes of play.
