Two-day event begins tomorrow, ends Saturday
Tomorrow and Saturday, the Uvalde Coyotes will be in Kingsville to participate in a varsity basketball tournament.
They will begin play in the third-annual Kingsville Brahma Holiday Shootout with a game against the Laredo Nixon Mustangs set for a 12:30 p.m. tipoff tomorrow.
Uvalde’s second game of the event is set for 4 p.m. tomorrow when the Coyotes will take on either the winner or the loser of an opening-round game between the Corpus Christi West Oso Bears and the San Perlita Trojans.
Laredo Nixon, a perennial Class 6A basketball powerhouse, is off to a 17-2 start this season.
Their lone two losses this season have come against San Antonio Madison, 77-68, and Cibolo Steele, 81-68.
The Mustangs, who currently are unranked, are riding a 16-game winning basketball streak.
Kingsville tournament competition will conclude Saturday afternoon.
The tourney championship game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start, while the tourney consolation title game will begin at 3 p.m.
Other teams vying in the two-day tournament include Port Isabel, Corpus Christi Moody, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, Sinton, tourney host Kingsville, Zapata, Los Fresnos, Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway, Del Rio, Santa Gertrudis, Rio Hondo, and Annapolis.
