Virginia M. Grillo

Virginia M. Grillo, 90, of Arlington died on Feb. 24, 2019, in Arlington.

A graveside service will be held on March 23, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Uvalde Cemetery.

She was born on Feb. 7, 1929, in Watertown, South Dakota, to Rose (Wood) and Joseph Robert Monkhouse.

In 1947, after graduating from Crowell High School, she attended Baylor University. She later completed her degree at Sul Ross State University-Rio Grande College in Uvalde. She taught at the elementary school level in Uvalde.

She married John Walton Raine in 1949 in Uvalde. The couple raised two daughters. The family says her home was filled with warmth and love; she extended kindness to many.

In 1978, she married B.F. “Mark” Grillo in San Antonio. They enjoyed many years of traveling in their motor home. The couple spent the winter season at the Happy Trails Resort in Surprise, Arizona. Later they relocated to Vicksburg Village in Kerrville.

In 2014 she moved to the Town Village Retirement Community in Arlington to be closer to family, and  she enjoyed many activities, close friendships and the Christian environment.

Life was always full with church, friends and family. According to the family, Grillo’s hands were always busy creating cherished memories through her sewing, quilting and cooking. She also often wrote words of encouragement. The family says she left a legacy of faith, love, kindness and generosity to those who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Bardisi F. Grillo.

She is survived by four daughters, Melinda Gibson and husband, Mike, of Keller, Melodie Waters and husband, Bowen, of Burleson, Linda Bachman and husband, Chuck, of Easton, Pennsylvania,  and Patti Hayden and husband, Greg, of Frisco; son, Patrick Grillo and wife, Nathalie, of Grasse, France; nine grandchildren, Trey Gibson and wife, Laura, Lauren Gage and husband, Andy, Leigh Worthley and husband, Tom, Beth Wester and husband, Travis, William Grillo, Paige Hayden, Piper Hayden, Stacey Wodarshi and husband, Kevin, and Scott Baker; and numerous great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held yesterday at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, TX 76013. The Rev. Bill Chelette officiated.
