Tim E. Gilles

Tim E. Gilles, 71, of San Antonio, died on Oct. 19, 2019, in San Antonio.  Gilles was born on Dec. 24, 1947, in Longview, Washington to Frances and George Gilles.

A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church, 2102 Avenue J, in Hondo and a memorial mass will follow at 2 p.m. Immediately following the memorial mass, services will conclude with a reception taking place across the street at St. John’s Parish Hall.

Gilles worked in banking in Oregon, Arizona and Washington before coming to Texas, where he served banks in South Texas. In January of 2008, he joined Hondo National Bank as its president and chief executive officer, where he served energetically and effectively until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn Gilles, of San Antonio; three sons, Tim Farstad, Sean Gilles (Veronica), Adam Gilles (Kylee); four daughters, Kristin Rea (Creighton), Kelly Fijolek (Greg), Desi Hodgin (Anthony), and Dani Anderson; brother, Tom Gilles; sister, Adele Kruger, and brother-in-law, Jay Johnson; 10 grandchildren, Gabby, Sean, Braxton “Little Bud,” Owen, Hannah, Lauren, Caleb, Jixon, Jagger and Holtynn; father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Janice Hall; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Teresa Hall.

Gilles attended Washington State University on an athletic scholarship where he played football and baseball for the Cougars. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants baseball organization and played a short time in their minor league farm system before deciding that a brighter future for him lay in a banking career.

Gilles was active in his church, his community, and contributed his time and support to numerous worthy causes.

He was a longtime and dedicated Rotarian. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Rotary’s “Share the Joy,” a program providing Christmas for local families in need. Contributions may be sent to Hondo-D’Hanis Rotary Club, P.O. Box 662, Hondo, Texas 78861 Services are under the direction of Hondo Funeral Home Inc.
