Teresa G. Serna
Teresa Galvan Serna, 79, of Uvalde died on Jan. 14, 2018, in Uvalde.
She was born on Dec. 4, 1938, in Crystal City to Carmen (Zepeda) and Francisco Galvan.
She married Ernesto Serna on Jan. 8, 1965, in Crystal City, and the couple moved to Uvalde shortly after the marriage.
The family says her passion in life was helping others; she worked for many years managing doctors’ offices but is most remembered for her work with Dr. Guice. The family says, along with Sister Hortencia Coloma, Serna created St. Henry de Osso Family Literacy Project helping low income families bring reading into their homes. She loved her rose bushes, sweet treats and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Serna was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Carmen Lopez, Minerva Alday, Guillermo Galvan and Francisco Galvan.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, of Uvalde; one daughter, Susana Serna and fiancé, Joel Lugo, of Uvalde; two sons, Ernesto Serna Jr. and wife, Carol, of Castroville and son Armando Serna and wife, JoNeen, of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Karen Serna and Diego Serna; three siblings, Maria Luisa Sifuentes of Austin, Jose Luis Galvan of Katy, and Rebecca Perez of San Antonio; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
A rosary was recited on Tuesday at 7 p.m., at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
A funeral mass was held on yesterday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Roland Perez, Rey Perez Jr., Ricardo Perez, Jesse Garcia, Fred Muniz Jr. and J. R. Broils.
