Refugio M. Garcia
Refugio Martinez Garcia, 81, of Uvalde died on Dec. 12, 2018, in Uvalde.
He was born on July 25, 1937, in Altamira Municipal of Jerécuaro, Guanajuato, Mexico, to Trinidad Martinez and Nicolas Garcia. He was the oldest of 12 siblings, and had six sisters and five brothers.
The family says he married the love of his life, Maria Guadalupe Aguilar, when he was 20 years old, and the marriage lasted for about 60 years until his death.
Garcia spent the greater part of his life working in agriculture, first in Mexico and later in the United States. He worked in the fields of California, Texas and Oregon. He enjoyed planting and harvesting.
The couple had 10 children, four boys and six girls. Garcia enjoyed watching his family grow with each generation.
He is survived by his wife, of Uvalde; 10 children, Abel Garcia and wife, Patricia, of Fredericksburg, Jose Luis Garcia and wife, Maria Elena, Maria Etelvina Huerta and husband, Manuel, Hector Garcia and wife, Erma, Maria de los Angeles Rios and husband, Salvador, Maria Isabel Juarez and husband, Ruben, Guadalupe Herrera and husband, Victor, Teresa Becceril and husband, Santos, Refugio Garcia Jr. and wife, Marela, Manuela Peña and husband, Jesus all of Perryton; six sisters, Augustina Pacheco of Guanajuato, Mexico, Carolina Rios and Reyna Garcia, both of Mexico City, Mexico, Aurora Elizondo of Searcy, Arkansas, Milagros Garcia of Blanco, Juana Tinajero of Denver, Colorado; and four brothers, Gabriel Garcia, Gregorio Garcia and Fernando Garcia, all of Guanajuato, Mexico, and Manuel Garcia of Searcy, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Benjamin Garcia.
A rosary was recited Thursday at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
A funeral mass was held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Cremation is under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
