Nolberto “Beto” Gutierrez Hernandez, 65, of Uvalde died on Oct. 28, 2018, at Uvalde Memorial Hospital.

He was born on May 29, 1953, in Uvalde to Eulalia (Gutierrez) and Juan Hernandez.

He married Albesa “Betty’” Carbajal on April 8, 1974, in Uvalde.

The family says he made friends easily, had a great sense of humor and loved his family deeply, particularly enjoying watching his grandchildren as they grew. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and barbecuing. He retired from working for the city of Uvalde in 2006 with a record of 34 years of excellent service.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years; daughter, Maricela A. Hernandez; three grandchildren, Emily Grace Martinez, Charles Martinez II and Avery Rose Martinez; brother, Valdomero Hernandez; and five sisters, Linda Gonzalez and husband, Mario Robles, Teresa Castillo and husband, Hector, Esperanza Treviño and husband, Michael, Esmeralda Uribe and husband, Antonio, and Vicky Gallegos and husband, Gonzalo, all of Uvalde.

Hernandez was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jessica Hernandez; granddaughter, Jenika Polanco; two brothers, Juan Manuel Hernandez Jr.and Marcos Hernandez; and half-brother, Juan Luis Hernandez.

A rosary was recited on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Rushing Estes Knowles Mortuary.

A funeral mass was held yesterday at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, followed by interment at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Alberto Mireles, Juan Zamora, Bobby Padilla, Ruben Flores, Juan Martinez and Valdomero Hernandez.

Honorary pallbearers were Charles Martinez II, Emily Grace Martinez and Avery Martinez.
