Mary Jane Hargrove

Mary Jane Barber Hargrove, 83, passed away Dec. 25, 2017, Christmas Day, in San Antonio, Texas.

She was born on Jan. 8, 1934, in Uvalde, Texas.

She is survived by daughters: Linda Hargrove (David Palmer) of Austin, Texas, Mary Lou Baker (Ron) of Laredo, Texas and Julia Hildreth (Mike) of Del Rio, Texas; daughter-in-law: Cindy Aubrey Hargrove; sons: Homer Hargrove (Mila) of Cedar Park, Texas, Jim Bob Hargrove (Lana Mitchell) of Langtry, Texas, Frank Hargrove (Ronda) of Del Rio, Texas and George Hargrove (Mary Catherine) of Del Rio, Texas; grandchildren: Chandler Palmer; Brooke, Stephanie, Anson, Darrell, Sarah, and Homer Hargrove III; Ronda Martens, Ashley Applegate, Jessica Williams, Martin Hargrove, Hadley Hargrove, Jeffery Austin, Franklin Hargrove, Katelyn Hurta, Haley and Mia Hargrove and Jane, Madalyn and Caroline Hildreth; also, 10 great-grandchildren: Ashlynn and Chase Austin, Jaxon and Ariana Hargrove, Jaxson and Lance Martens, Arley Applegate, Kamryn and Kyler Williams, and Lillian Abbott.

She was preceded in death by husband, Homer Darrell (Darrell) Hargrove; parents Anson L. (“Sport”) Barber and Beulah Dell Barnhill Barber; sister Nancy Barber, and brothers Joseph and Kent Barber.

Mary Jane grew up in Uvalde and graduated from Uvalde High School. She attended Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde and business school in San Angelo before marrying Darrell Hargrove. They lived in Camp Wood and Barksdale for close to a decade.

In 1969, Darrell and Mary Jane moved their family to Del Rio to start Southwest Livestock and Trucking. Mary Jane forged and maintained many lifetime friendships and had the blessing of a very large and loving family. She loved her grandchildren and received great pleasure being around them.

Her family is most grateful for the kind and compassionate care provided by staff at Southwest Assisted Living in Del Rio during the last few months of her life. The family also thanks Maria Sandra Elias, Abby Montejano, and Katia Ramon for additional care and support.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 30th, 2017, at the G. W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home in Del Rio, Texas.
