Maria L. Velasquez
Maria Lorenza Velasquez, 83, of Uvalde died on March 15, 2020, at Amistad Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Uvalde.
Visitation began Wednesday from noon to 9 p.m. with a rosary recitation at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary recitation set at 7 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home.
A mass of Christian burial will take place tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with interment following at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Velasquez was born March 18, 1936, to Angelita (Botello) and Francisco Valverde in Montell.
She is survived by two sons, Francisco “Frank” Velasquez Sr. and Lazaro “Larry” Velasquez Jr., both of Uvalde; five daughters, Lorena De Luna and husband, Daniel, Rachel Velasquez and partner, Danny Garza, and Norma Galan, all of Uvalde, Janie Velasquez and partner, Jesus Barba, of Eagle Pass, and Ramona Flores of Brackettville; 29 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by both parents; husband, Lazaro A. Velasquez; son, Alfredo Velasquez; daughter, Leticia Velasquez; two brothers, Pedro Valverde and Miguel Valverde; and three sisters, Francisca Lopez, Isidra Tovar and San Juanita Valverde.
Pallbearers will be Devin Galan, Frank “Panchito” Velasquez Jr., Larry “Papo” Velasquez III, Arturo Aguirre, Daniel De Luna, Daniel “Danny” Flores, all of Uvalde, Frankie Velasquez of Odessa, and Jesus Barba Jr. of Eagle Pass.
