Maria I. Cruz

Maria Iniguez Cruz, 95, of Uvalde died on March 21, 2020, at Amistad Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Uvalde.

She was born on Sept. 11, 1924, to Apolonia (Muñoz) and Crescencio Iniguez.

She is survived by three daughters, Eloisa C. Robertson of Uvalde, Hortencia C. Gill and husband, Thomas J., of Cypress, and Maria Alicia Ortega of Chicago, Illinois; four sons, Emigdio I. Cruz and wife, Enedina, of Uvalde, Juan Cruz and wife, Sue, of Continental, Ohio, Jose “Joe” Martin Cruz and companion, Diane, of Wauseon, Ohio, and retired U.S. Navy Chief Ignacio I. Cruz of Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida; sister Maria Jesus Barker and husband, Bruce, of Asherton; 23 grandchildren, Yvette Gomez, Cody Wayne Cruz and Katrina Alexandria Cruz all of Uvalde, Samantha L. Gill of Cypress, Eric Alexander Cruz of San Antonio, Crystal Cruz of Austin, Juan Cruz Jr., Adam Cruz and Christina Cruz of Wauseon, Ohio, Ramon Ortega, Ruben Ortega, Ricardo Ortega, Alicia Ortega, Francisco Ortega, Griselda Ortega, Alejandro Ortega, Araceli Ortega, Eduardo Ortega, Erika Ortega, Salvador Ortega and Jose Ortega all of Chicago, Illinois, United States Navy Lt. Americo Perez Jr. of Naval Base Kitsap, Washington, and Emily Rae Cruz of Ankeny, Iowa; numerous nephews and nieces; and 33 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emigdio Cruz Gutierez; infant son Enrique Cruz; three brothers, Gonzalo Iniguez, Felix Iniguez and Jose Iniguez; two sisters Otila Iniguez and Ginia Iniguez; and two sons-in-law, Jim Robertson and Ruben Ortega.

A vigil was held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

A graveside service took place yesterday at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery.
