Marcos Ortiz Jr.
Marcos Ortiz Jr., 62, of Camp Wood died on Jan. 29, 2019, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.
He was born on Jan. 26, 1957, in Camp Wood to Maria (Aguero) and Marcos Ortiz Sr.
The family says he was a special man, loving and funny, and was always there for his family; he loved his grandchildren more than anything in the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Marcos Ortiz III.
Ortiz is survived by his wife of 38 years, Maria T. Ortiz of Camp Wood; four children, Stephanie Ortiz, Angie Vera and husband, Ramon, all of Uvalde, JoJo Ortiz of Edna, and Aliza M. Coronado and husband, Ignacio, of Sonora; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Gilbert of Camp Wood; 13 grandchildren, Ace Sanchez, JR Vera, Elosia Sanchez, Hannah Ortiz, Devin Ortiz, Deandra Vera, Ignacio “Bubba” Coronado IV, Armani Coronado, Joseph Ortiz, Jesse Ortiz, Genni Arreola, Marcos Ortiz IV and Jaxton Gilbert; seven sisters, Benita Aguilera, Maggie Zamora, Cecilia Contreras, Ernestina Hidalgo, Linda Luna, Martha Ortiz and Martina Sanchez; seven great-grandchildren, Lucille A. Ortiz, Amiya K. Rodriguez, Aliyah L. Rodriguez, Andreyah R. Valdez, Abram Ace Valdez, Alyvia Z. Sanchez and Anali Perez; her nephew, Lorenzo Ortiz, who the family says he regarded like a son; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing was held on Jan. 31, and Feb. 1, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and a rosary was recited both evenings at 7 p.m., at Nelson Funeral Chapel of Camp Wood.
A mass of Christian burial was held on Feb. 2, 2019, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Camp Wood. The Rev. Adrian Adamik officiated. Interment followed at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Camp Wood.
Pallbearers were Jerry Rivera, Tano Aguero, Tavo Gonzales, Lupio Arispe, Arturo Aguero and Jimmy Aguero.
Honorary pallbearers were Ignacio Coronado IV, JR Vera, Ace Sanchez, Armani Coronado, Devin Ortiz, Joseph Ortiz, Jesse Ortiz, Marcos Ortiz IV and Jaxton Gilbert.
