Luis Herrera, 97, of Sabinal died on Feb. 9, 2018, at Amistad Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Uvalde.
He was born on Feb. 29, 1920, in Jimenez, Coahuila, Mexico to Macaria Vasquez and Luis Herrera.
He is survived by four daughters, Graciela Rodriguez and husband, David, and Rosa Herrera, all of Sabinal, and Delfina Herrera and Norma Alicia Herrera, both of Austin; three sons, Lupe Herrera and wife, Carmen, of Piedras Negras, Mexico, Juan Herrera of Pearsall and Jose Luis Herrera and wife, Irene, of Cedar Park; 22 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one daughter- in-law, Rosalinda Herrera of Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Herrera was preceded in death by his wife, Adelina Cortez Herrera; parents; two daughters, Maria Luisa Herrera and Maria Herrera; and one son, Oscar Rojelio Herrera.
A rosary was recited on Saturday and again on Sunday at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Sabinal. A funeral mass was held on Monday at 3 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sabinal. Interment followed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Juan Herrera, David Rodriguez Sr., David Rodriguez Jr., Thomas Anthony Moreno, Anthony Rodriguez and Joseph Rodriguez.
