Lilla L. Rose
Lilla Lee Mayes Rose, 85, of Uvalde died on Nov. 3, 2019, at Uvalde Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
She was born in Rocksprings on April 21, 1934, to Ima (Thurman) and Albert Eugene Mayes.
She married James David Rose on June 23, 1956, and they raised three children: James David Rose Jr., Kyle Mayes Rose, and Marla Lee Rose. According to the family, she loved her role as a rancher’s wife and her life was fulfilled by caring for and loving her family.
They described her as a wonderful cook who loved to prepare delicious meals for her family and friends. Always the gracious hostess, she made sure all guests were offered a refreshing beverage, food and a place to sit. This was important to her even in the final years.
She had a flair for art and loved painting. Many of her loved ones are proud to have one of her special works of art.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Imogene Gentry and Alice Jane Rogers; and brother, Jack Mayes.
She is survived by her three children, James David Rose Jr. and wife, Cathy, of Uvalde, Kyle Mayes Rose and wife, Sue Ann, of Brackettville, and Marla Lee Schaefer and husband, Alton, of Ballinger; six grandchildren, Charlotte Schexnider and spouse, Joshua, James David Rose III, Brian Rose and spouse, Devin, Charles Rose, Brandon Schaefer and Allison Schaefer; three great-grandchildren, Tyanna Zapata, Roy Schexnider and Jason Rose; nephew Gene Mayes; and great-nephew Will Welch.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Schaefer, Brian Rose, Charles Rose, Joshua Schexnider, Roy Schexnider and Roy Kothmann.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Rose, Kyle Rose, Alton Schaefer, Bill Livingston, Lenard Poehler, Gene Mayes, Ray Melton and Malcolm Richey.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Getty Street Church of Christ in Uvalde, 125 E. Garden St., where Rose celebrated her faith and love of the Lord.
