Jose B. Amaya Sr.
Jose B. Amaya Sr., 95, of Sabinal died on July 29, 2019, in Marion, Illinois.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Sabinal with interment to follow at St. Patricks Catholic Cemetery.
He was born on March 15, 1924, in Utopia to Juanita (Barbosa) and Demetrio Amaya.
Amaya served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Henrietta Ramirez on Oct. 4, 1959, in Stamford.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, of Sabinal; daughter, Yolanda Amaya and companion, Provat Gupta, of Glendale, California; two sons, Jose Amaya Jr. and wife, Rosa, of Aurora, Illinois, and Richard Amaya and wife, Minerva, of Bakersfield, California; sister, Dominga Benitez of Livermore, California; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Amaya was preceded in death by two sons, Ray Amaya and James Amaya; his parents; two sisters, Emma Amaya and Isabel A. Puente; and seven brothers, Maximo Amaya, Isidro Amaya, Pablo Amaya, Juan Amaya, Demetrio Amaya Jr., Pablo Amaya and Vicente Amaya.
A rosary was recited yesterday at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Sabinal.
Pallbearers will be Jermaine Amaya, Provat Amaya Jr., Isaiah Amaya, Andrew Amaya, Xavier Amaya and Giovanni Amaya.
Honorary pallbearers are LeeRoy Amaya and Frank Amaya.
