Jesus “Jesse” Gutierrez, 69, of Uvalde died on Feb. 26, 2018, at his residence.

A rosary was recited yesterday and will be recited again today at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

A funeral mass will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

He was born on Dec. 25, 1948, in Uvalde to Valentina (Alamillo) and Sostenes Gutierrez.

He married Anita Uriegas on Nov. 16, 1968, in Uvalde.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a Seabee, a member of the United States Naval Construction Battalions, and a Vietnam Veteran. The family says he served God by many acts of kindness to family and strangers alike.

Gutierrez is survived by his wife of 49 years, of Uvalde; two daughters, Jenni Maldonado and husband, Ruben, of Uvalde and Jessica Gutierrez of San Antonio; one son, Jesse Gutierrez and wife, Raquel, of San Antonio; two sisters, Yolanda Ortiz of Uvalde and Pura Rios of Bryan; four brothers, Ernesto Gutierrez, Sostenes Gutierrez Jr., Mario Gutierrez and Armando Gutierrez, all of Uvalde; four grandchildren, Tre Sevilla, Ashley Maldonado, Andrew Maldonado, and Ava Gutierrez; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation was held yesterday at 5 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

Pallbearers will be Emilio Garza IV, Reuben Arredondo, E.J. Uriegas, Chris Gutierrez, Rudy Ortiz, Frank Mireles Jr. and Daniel Reyna.

Honorary pallbearers will be Los Parchez.
