Jesse Wyatt

Jesse Wyatt, 89, of Chandler, Arizona, died on Jan. 22, 2020, in Chandler.

Wyatt was born to Frances (Bell) and Robert Wyatt on Aug. 13, 1930, in Uvalde.

He grew up the youngest of four siblings in the Hill Country. He attended school in Sabinal before his family moved to Alpine, where he finished high school in 1947.

Wyatt received his Bachelor of Science degree at Sul Ross State University in 1950, and went on to serve with the Navy Seabees during the Korean War, where he was stationed on Guam.

After the service, Wyatt was a surveyor for the Texas Highway Department but went back to school to earn his civil engineering degree at the University of Texas in January of 1958. From there he became a registered professional engineer in both civil and structural engineering.

On Sep. 6, 1958, he married Ruby Raschke in Austin, and the couple had two children.

During this time, he worked for the Portland Cement Association. He transferred to Phoenix, Arizona, with his young family in the Spring of 1966.

Upon leaving PCA, he started his own consulting firm specializing in tilt-up wall construction and concrete failures.

According to the family, Wyatt was a history buff, enjoyed watching old Western movies, cheered on his home state in college football, and listened to Big Band music. He spent a significant amount of time researching his family’s genealogy and published his findings in 2015. Wyatt was proud to have been a Son of the Republic of Texas. While he lived in Arizona, his heart was always in Texas, where he vacationed and visited as often as he could.

Wyatt is survived by his wife of 61 years, of Chandler, Arizona; one daughter, Carol Thatcher and husband, Greg, of Chandler, Arizona; one son, Scott Wyatt and wife, Patty, of Niles, Ohio; three grandchildren Amanda Thatcher, Cristi Costs, and Jessica Wyatt; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Frances Brookshier; and two brothers, Edward Wyatt, and Robert Wyatt Jr.

A celebration of life was held on Jan. 31 in Phoenix, Arizona. His ashes will be laid to rest at a future date near his family in Sabinal.
