James H. Bennett
James “Jim” Henderson Bennett, 78, of Leakey died on May 12, 2018, in Kerrville.
A visitation will be held tomorrow from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Nelson’s Funeral Home in Leakey.
Services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Concan Church of Christ, followed by a graveside service at the Leakey Floral Cemetery. James Taylor of Leakey will officiate.
He was born on Sept. 15, 1939, in Groesbeck to Wilma Marguerite (Nance) and Lynn J. Bennett.
He graduated from Uvalde High School in 1958, and from Texas State University in 1962, with a degree in chemistry.
The family says he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Perry, on Aug. 19, 1961, in Uvalde.
He began his career at the Coca Cola Bottling Company in San Antonio in quality control. In 1980, he was transferred to Temple as vice president of operations until 1987; the company then transferred him to Cuero to head the syrup production plant. In 2000, Bennett retired and moved to Leakey where the couple built a home on the Frio River.
His talents included woodworking and making stained glass. The family says friends and family treasure projects he made for them; he was a faithful member of the Concan Church of Christ, where he built the pulpit, among other things. He loved his family, and he had a smile and a laugh that would light up a room.
Bennett is survived by his wife, of Leakey; daughter, Melissa Green and husband, Bill, of Kingwood; and son, Jimmy Bennett and wife, Julie, of Rosebud; and five grandchildren, Brent Green, Amanda Green, Kailey Bennett, Rebecca Bennett and Charly Bennett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Jeanette Hall.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Bennett, Brent Green, Bill Green, Jim Jackson, Chip Browning and Alan Babcock.
The family requests memorial donations in his honor be made to the Leakey EMS, P.O. Box 803, Leakey, TX 78833.
