James D. Rose Sr.

James David Rose Sr., 89, of Uvalde died on Feb. 16, 2018, at Uvalde Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on March 14, 1928, in Uvalde to Creasa (Hokit) and James Rose.

He married Lilla Lee Mayes in 1954 in Rocksprings.

Rose served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the South Getty Church of Christ, and a lifetime rancher in Uvalde County and Kinney County.

Rose is survived by his wife of 61 years; two sons, David Rose and wife, Catherine, of Uvalde and Kyle Rose and wife, Sue Ann, of Brackettville; one daughter, Marla Schaefer and husband, Alton, of Ballinger; six grandchildren, Charlotte Schexnider and husband, Joshua, Jim Rose, Brian Rose and wife, Devin, Charlie Rose, Brandon Schaefer and Allison Schaefer; and three great-grandchildren, Tyanna Zapata and husband, Gerardo, Roy Schexnider, and Jason Rose.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Rose; and one sister, Frances Livingston.

Funeral services were held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery. Ray Melton officiated.

Pallbearers were Brian Rose, Charlie Rose, Brandon Schaefer, Joshua Schexnider, Roy Schexnider and Roy Kothmann.

Honorary pallbearers were Leonard Poehler, Malcolm Richey, Bill Livingston, Bobby Shackelford, Chuck Gruenwald, Mike Harrell and Dr. John L. Shudde.
