Guadalupe S. Castillo

Guadalupe S. “Lupe” Castillo, 72, of Uvalde died on Dec. 23 in Uvalde.

She was born on July 13, 1947, in French Camp, California, to Soila Samora Castillo.

She was preceded in death by her mother; two brothers, Abelino Alvarado and Arturo Zamora;  sister,  Mari Lou Cruz; three nephews, Roger Alvarado, Victor Manuel Cruz Jr. and Michael Ray Cruz; and brother-in-law, Santiago Saiz.

The family says she was an avid sports fan who supported the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns and San Antonio Spurs, and she loved to dance.

Castillo is survived by her daughter, Patricia Castillo; two, grandchildren, Marcus Anthony Limones and Jeremy Roger Limones; two brothers; George S. Rodriguez and wife, Connie, and Victor Manuel Cruz and wife, Angie; and three sisters, Lilia Saiz, Evangelina Cabrales and husband, Victor, and Gloria Reyes and husband, Ruben, all of Uvalde; two sisters-in-law, Delia Alvarado of San Antonio and Alice Zamora of Salt Lake City, Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and a rosary was recited at 7 p.m., at the Chapel of Serenity at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home of Uvalde.

A mass of Christian burial was held Friday at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment followed at Hillcrest  Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Rudy Aguero of San Antonio, and Roland James Saiz,  George Lucas Rodriguez, Juan Dominguez, Jacob Dominguez, James Lucas Dominguez, Jacinto “Tres” De La Garza, Jonathan Luna and Albino Salinas III, all of Uvalde. Honorary pallbearer was Adolfo Cruz III.
