Gertrude Miles, 89, of Knippa died on Dec. 2, 2017, at Uvalde Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with interment to follow at the Knippa Cemetery.
She was born on Oct. 14, 1928, in Uvalde County to Bertha Meyer and Henry Langner.
She married John Elbert Miles on Oct. 18, 1952, in Crystal City. He preceded her in death on April 9, 1996.
Miles worked for the Knippa Independent School District for 22 years, before retiring in 1995. She was a lifetime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Knippa and the family says Miles loved her church family. She took her first airplane ride, to Washington, D.C., for her 80th birthday. The trip was a gift from friends.
Miles is survived by two daughters, Barbara McCartney and husband, Bret, of Clyde, and Annette Loofe and husband, Jim, of Fort Worth; one son, Steve Miles of Knippa; two sisters, Dorothy Anton and husband, Hubert, of New Braunfels and Betty Schawe and husband, John, of San Marcos; one brother, Larry Langner and wife, Kathy, of Knippa; four grandchildren, Carrie Conner, Stephanie Allen and wife, Kim, Christina McCartney and Jacob Boudrow; three great-grandchildren, Rylee Conner, Emma Conner and Isabelle Turner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one brother, Kenneth Langner.
Pallbearers will be Dudley Braesicke, Michael Deans, Brian Langner, Gary Stadler, Eddie Sweeten and Perry Reed.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Reagan and Raymond Schwarzlose.
